From chapter 8 to chapter 10, Victor is in a deep depression after the execution of Justine and feeling guilty for being responsible for the death of 2 innocent people. His depression was so bad to the point that he contemplated committing suicide. Connecting that to today’s society, people have a hard time handling the death of someone constantly grieving for a long period of time to the point of having depression. We have a hard time handling it just like Victor did. He used nature as his way to free himself of the sadness he posses within his mind. Even though it doesn’t work entirely for him, it does let him admire nature more and relieve some of the stress he has. He also gets help from his family, especially his dad who takes him to Belrive where Victor visits the valley of Chamounix. He believed that if he saw the view of a pure, natural scene it will revive his spirits for the better. In the end it was only a short lived as he fell into depression again after his grief resurfa...

As we continue to read the novel, Mark describes the tragic death of Victor’s youngest brother William who was strangled to death after walking ahead of his family on their evening stroll near their house. Shocked and saddened by the news, Victor departed to his old home where by the time he arrived, it was night fall and the gates were closed all around. This scene of the book has the theme of never taking your family for granted no matter how hard it is, make time for them. Victor lost his brother in a gruesome way and the last time he had contact with him was probably 2 years ago before he isolated himself from the world and his family. He put his work in front of his family which would be understandable if he would have at least stayed in touch with his family but he didn’t. Deep inside Victor is probably contemplating why he put in so much work into his project and not enough time with his family. The guilt is eating away at him as he traveled to his hometown. It is also added t...

Chapter 4 of the novel describes the progress that Victor made in his mission to bring death back to life. It is described that his mental and physical took a toll on his road to glory. It was one of the drawbacks in return for having rapidly growing progression in his research leading to his breakthrough after mastering every single subject taught by his teachers. To go more into detail, he was in solitude for a year, separating himself from his friends and more importantly his family. Leaving notes unanswered for a long periods of time. Getting rid of his social life and on top of that his health decreased dramatically as he turned pale and weak. He achieved his goal through sacrifices and hard work leading to me thinking about the theme of hard work required if you want to achieve anything in life. In the real world, it is necessary to do hard work to accomplish your life goal. It is also required to let go of things you love dearly. It was hard for Victor as well as everyone else...

In letter 4 of Mark Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, he writes about Robert Walton, an arctic explorer on a mission to find a northwest passage, writing to his sister Margaret Saville about his expedition and experiences upon leaving his home. In this specific letter he documents witnessing a man of “gigantic stature” while his ship was stuck in a ice field. Later on they encounter another man floating in the ice and invite him to the ship. Victor Frankenstein, the survivor of the wreck, slowly regains his strength and begins to open up to Walton who believes he is the friend he was hoping to find on his voyage. On page 25, when the crew saw the first man, they described him as a “gigantic stature” that exited the crew ship. It shows that the crew has been on their adventure for an extended amount of time and haven’t witnessed any other interactions with new people. It can also mean that they were excited because they think they are close to land. Victor was later discovered and told hi...
