Unit 3 - Blog

As we continue to read the novel, Mark describes the tragic death of Victor’s youngest brother William who was strangled to death after walking ahead of his family on their evening stroll near their house. Shocked and saddened by the news, Victor departed to his old home where by the time he arrived, it was night fall and the gates were closed all around. This scene of the book has the theme of never taking your family for granted no matter how hard it is, make time for them. Victor lost his brother in a gruesome way and the last time he had contact with him was probably 2 years ago before he isolated himself from the world and his family. He put his work in front of his family which would be understandable if he would have at least stayed in touch with his family but he didn’t. Deep inside Victor is probably contemplating why he put in so much work into his project and not enough time with his family. The guilt is eating away at him as he traveled to his hometown. It is also added that Victor walked through the woods on the outskirts of the town probably in sorrow beating himself up about the death.
