Unit 4 - Blog

From chapter 8 to chapter 10, Victor is in a deep depression after the execution of Justine and feeling guilty for being responsible for the death of 2 innocent people. His depression was so bad to the point that he contemplated committing suicide. Connecting that to today’s society, people have a hard time handling the death of someone constantly grieving for a long period of time to the point of having depression. We have a hard time handling it just like Victor did. He used nature as his way to free himself of the sadness he posses within his mind. Even though it doesn’t work entirely for him, it does let him admire nature more and relieve some of the stress he has. He also gets help from his family, especially his dad who takes him to Belrive where Victor visits the valley of Chamounix. He believed that if he saw the view of a pure, natural scene it will revive his spirits for the better. In the end it was only a short lived as he fell into depression again after his grief resurfaced the next day. People nowadays should appreciate the power of a beautiful nature scene that can be the difference between being happy and living your days in sadness
